We don’t need to tell you what a rollercoaster of a year 2020 was; we’re all on the same ride! In the midst of all the uncertainty, one thing we’re certain of is how very fortunate we are at World of Books to be able to provide books to your homes.
In the last year, books have been a fantastic source of entertainment while we had to stay at home, courage and inspiration when we had to face the worst, education when we turned homes into schools, and the ultimate escape when we just needed a break from it all.
We’d like to look back on 2020 for all its good bits! So here’s a year in review of what we’ve been up to at World of Books.
Our most popular blog posts in 2020
Beautiful Books
You all loved this blog piece, showing off some of our incredible illustrated books from Usborne Classic Children’s Stories to an Illustrated Life of Pi. If you didn’t get the change to check them out before Christmas, take a browse through our illustrated books selection.
Influential Female Poets
Our Top Fives lists always create rich discussion. Influential Female Poets got us all talking and discovering amazing women who really made their mark on the world of poetry and beyond, from Maya Angelou to Carol Ann Duffy.
Fantasy Book Series
Your third favourite blog post was another Top Fives list: Fantasy Book Series. This one always creates a debate. Does A Song of Ice and Fire deserve the spot? Are we missing out a classic fantasy series? Let us know!
Being a business for good
At World of Books, the core of our business is sharing the love of reading, recycling, and rehoming books to keep them in circulation as long as possible.
In 2020, World of Books recycled or rehomed 61.7 million books
26,563 tonnes recycled or rehomed.
That’s the equivalent of 451,571 trees.
Or the equivalent of 92,970 female African elephants!
What was our most bought book?

I read so many books that I lost count. Books are very important to me and I’m not sure that I would have been able to go through this year without books. Books are part of my daily life and luckily my son is into books too so that is a good thing. Staying at home with family and enjoying books together has been our main activity this year and of course staying safe and well.
Since we have all been caught up in this forced imprisonment I have been trying to revisit books of my childhood to take me away from the current worries.
I recall as a child reading a number of books based back in medieval times about book printers in England. A sort of Blackadder the London printer but for the life of me I cannot track down the titles or author any ideas would be gratefully reviewed.
Hello. Do you have a first edition of Fatipuffs and Thinifers in English?
Hello Jeremy, unfortunately, we don’t currently have the first edition of that title. We have a few newer editions here https://www.worldofbooks.com/en-gb/category/all?search=Fatipuffs%20and%20Thinifers
However, our stock is everchanging, so do check back in the future!
Many thanks, World of Books
I ave read so many books that I have lost count. I belong to the radio 2 book club and its interesting to see the different books folk read. Reading during the pandemic has been a great pastime for my huband and myself. I enjoy purchasing books from you and then wait in anticipation for them to be delivered. I also use your site to order books to be delivered to my sister who lives in the north west of UK and I’m in the south east. Thank you for your speedy delivery.
